Stylish modern home office featuring custom built-in shelving, bold orange equestrian artwork, a wood-and-white desk, statement lighting, and a comfortable lounge chair.

Yes — and some of the most satisfying projects we take are exactly this. A primary bedroom that finally feels like a retreat. A dining room ready to host again. A study, a nursery, a living room that has waited years while the rest of the house got its turn. One room is a real project, and you deserve a real answer about how it works.

The honest caveats come first, though — because "can I?" is usually really asking "will a good designer take it seriously?"

The Honest Version of Yes

Many established firms carry project minimums, and a single room may sit below some of them. At our studio the deciding factor has never been square footage alone — it's fit. The project, the aesthetic, and the personalities have to align, which is why Vanessa invests real time in the one-to-one consultation call before anything else. On that call we'll talk budget candidly, tell you exactly what bringing on a designer costs at your scope, and — if we're not the right match for the project — happily point you to someone who might be. Interior designer for one room done wonderfully beats a whole house done reluctantly, on both sides of the relationship.

What makes a single room work as a project: it needs to be treated as a complete composition, not a shopping trip. Layout, lighting, palette, furnishings, window treatments, art, and the finishing details, resolved together. That is a genuinely different service than buying a sofa with advice.

When One Room Is Exactly Right

When one room carries outsized weight.

Primary bedrooms, dining rooms, and entries punch far above their square footage in daily life.

When it's a trial run.

Many full-home clients started with one room — it's how trust gets built on both sides.

When it's really phase one.

If you suspect more rooms are coming, say so: we can design the single room within a whole-home direction, so nothing gets redone later — the same design-whole, build-slowly logic we recommend for phased budgets.

When the room needs no construction at all.

Furnishing-and-styling scope — furniture, rugs, drapery, art — is precisely what The Bespoke Edit was created for.

What One-Room Design Costs in Golden

There isn’t a responsible way to assign one broad price range to a single-room design project, because every room asks for something different.

A dining room may require fewer individual furnishings, but dining chairs, a quality table, lighting, window treatments, and a rug can represent a significant investment. A home office may need very little freestanding furniture, yet require custom built-ins, millwork, integrated lighting, or electrical modifications. A primary bedroom may be furnishing-heavy, while another room may be driven more by construction, cabinetry, or architectural detailing.

That’s why we don’t try to force every one-room project into the same budget formula.

Our structure is straightforward: the working consultation is a flat fee—the only flat fee we charge before a contract—and ongoing design time is billed hourly at tiered rates by team member. Your investment is based on the actual scope, complexity, and level of design required for your room, rather than a generic whole-home package.

During our initial conversation, we can help you understand what is realistic for the room you’re considering and where the larger investments are likely to fall.

The largest conse uence of designing one room, is that it will be your favorite room, and the other rooms will be jealous, and will look like they were neglected.  There is nothing you can do about that!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do designers take single-room projects seriously?

The right ones do — with the same process as a whole home, scaled. Ask how they'd approach it; the answer reveals whether you're getting design or shopping assistance.

How long does a one-room project take?

Typically 3 to 6 months from consultation to installed room, driven mostly by furnishing lead times. Custom pieces are worth the wait — this room will live with you for decades.

Can one room match the rest of my house?

It should converse with it — consistent quality and palette logic without repeating it. And if more rooms may follow, we design this one inside that larger direction from day one.

What's the first step?

The one-to-one call, then a working consultation in your home. You'll know quickly — and so will we — whether it's a fit.

One room, waiting for its moment? Inquire with our studio — small scope, full attention.
